PLC CHAMPIONS

ZAVEKHOYI P VADEO
Subject President, Chemistry
PLC GHSS Phek, Phek District

Mr Zavekhoyi has actively participated in both in-person and online Professional Learning Community (PLC) trainings, where he gained new knowledge and skills. He contributed valuable insights and suggestions, such as the proposal to introduce a transition course to bridge the knowledge gap between Grade 10 and Grade 11 curricula.

After the second in-person PLC training, he has been implementing interactive pedagogical strategies in his classrooms regularly; for example, he let the students of Class 12 choose a topic from their chemistry course to give a 15-minute presentation. A week of preparation time was provided to them. The students enthusiastically gave presentations on various topics and concepts. Their grasp of the presented topics was assessed by their peers and the teacher.

Despite differences in the learning abilities of the students, this activity gave every student the opportunity to learn through participation.

Mr Zavekhoyi fosters a collaborative learning environment by using hands-on activities and encouraging the students to actively participate and engage with material objects. This has been instrumental in fostering a dynamic and interactive classroom environment. The use of ball-and-stick molecular models to elucidate complex concepts such as stereochemistry and organic reaction mechanisms is particularly noteworthy. Employing these models not only facilitates the visualisation, analysis, and greater understanding of molecular conformations and chemical properties but also enables the development of skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

Furthermore, Mr Zavekhoyi is an empathetic educator who prioritises the holistic well-being of his students. He encourages students with physiological constraints, thereby promoting inclusivity and a conducive learning environment for all. His dedication to enhance student learning experiences and his commitment to professional growth make him an educator worth emulating.

His passion for chemistry extends beyond the classroom through his love for experimenting in baking and wood-working. He aspires to be a respectable person whom the students can look up to as a role model.
