A one-day training and orientation on Environmental and Social Standards (ESS) for the contractors of all the 16 Lighthouse School Complexes (LSCs) was conducted on 26 February at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
J. Alam (IAS), Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland & Chairman, Project Steering Committee, NECTAR, delivered the keynote address and highlighted the importance of the LSCs and the project for the state.
Experts from the Project Management Unit conducted sessions on “Social Standards and Safeguards” and “Environmental Standards and Safeguards” highlighting the importance of adhering to the World Bank’s ESS for minimising the negative impact of the project and maximising benefits for the community and the environment.
The concept of LSCs as hub schools with modern facilities aim to elevate the state of government schools, cater to the neighbouring spoke schools and enhance teaching learning practices.
